Flint, Michigan
The Flint East Boulevard Former MGP Site is located on an urban property owned by the University of Michigan-Flint, United States Postal Service, and Consumer’s Energy. Remediation addressed a stretch of the Flint River impacted by coal-tar. COCs also included PAHs, VOCs, and metals.
Sevenson mechanically dredged 84,000 CY of contaminated sediments to a depth of 15-ft. in the Flint River. After dredging operations, crews placed 115,000 tons of multi-layer cap material to create an impermeable barrier encompassing 307,434 SF within the river. To treat construction water, Sevenson designed, constructed, operated, and maintained a 200-GPM wastewater treatment plant that treated and discharged 2M gallons of wastewater in accordance with local requirements. Our management team worked closely with other urban stakeholders, specifically University of Michigan-Flint, campus public safety, and the local US Post Office to re-sequence work to avoid disrupting major city events.
