This refinery is an approximately 2,300-acre petroleum refining facility located along the Houston Ship Channel (approximately 25 miles east of Houston, Texas). The site is located within an armored shoreline and shallow near-shore tidal zone between two active refinery docks. Historic operations deposited petroleum into channel sediments, some of which settled below the water table in the bay. These sediments were subsequently covered by silt from the Houston Ship Channel system through natural sedimentation over the years.

This project involved the installation of 500 LF near-shore Open Cell sheet pile wall 50 ft. off the shoreline. barge mounted vibratory hammer was utilized to drive the piles to the target depth of 19-ft. BGS. Upon completion of the sheet pile wall, Sevenson performed the mechanical dredging of 8,000 CY of petroleum-contaminated sediment; stabilized dredged material with Portland cement to 10 psiplaced solidified sediment behind the sheet pile wall; and installed a 3,500 CY multi-layer low-permeability cap over a 31,158 SF area.
