Decontamination & Demolition

Sevenson delivers safe and efficient decontamination, dismantlement, and demolition solutions. From active industrial facilities to abandoned sites, our team has the expertise to manage sensitive projects with precision and care.

Prior to 1973 most of Sevenson’s demolition work was small-scale commercial and industrial projects tied to plant renovations or expansions in and around Niagara Falls, NY. In 1973, a major earthquake destroyed approximately 400 acres of structures in Managua, Nicaragua, and Sevenson was awarded a contract to decontaminate, demolish and dispose of structures identified as dangerous or uninhabitable. Work continued until 1979, when the Nicaraguan government was overthrown and Sevenson was forced to cease operations and leave the country. During its six years in Nicaragua, Sevenson demolished hundreds of masonry, steel, stone, and concrete structures.

Since then, Sevenson has completed hundreds of decontamination and demolition projects across the United States, often tied to other remediation work at a facility. Sevenson’s decontamination and demolition work associated with its remediation business range, including:

  • Demolition of 20 abandoned buildings and abatement of associated hazardous building materials such as asbestos and lead based paint at a government facility in Rhode Island
  • Removal, cleaning, and disposal of process equipment and contents from buildings, tanks, vessels, silos, hoppers, piping, sumps, and related production equipment in New York
  • Demolition of mixed-use masonry and steel structures, including management of asbestos-containing material (ACM) abatement, in New Jersey; ACM was shipped off-site for disposal, while steel and masonry was sized and staged for recycling
  • Demolition, removal, and off-site disposal of an existing on-site 22,000 SF building, slab, and foundation in New Jersey
  • Demolition of radiologically-contaminated buildings, both commercial and residential, sidewalks, streets, and adjacent areas containing ACM, lead-based paint, and other contaminants at a Superfund Site in New York
