South Plainfield, New Jersey

The Cornell-Dubilier Electronics, Inc. (CDE) site is comprised of a 26-acre property formerly owned by CDE, several adjacent residential, commercial, and municipal properties, and the adjoining Bound Brook corridor. Between 1936 and 1962, the company operated a facility on the property and manufactured electronic components. Poor waste handling practices resulted in releases of PCBs and VOCs, primarily TCE, which resulted in the contamination of soils, sediments, and groundwater at the site.

Sevenson completed remediation of contaminated soils and sediments from a stream corridor and its surrounding wetlands. Upon completion of remediation work, extensive wetland restoration occurred. Sevenson restored native plant communities to habitats that were previously dominated by invasive species. Restored areas included upland areas and wetlands along upper and lower shorelines of the stream, Palustrine Forest areas, Emergent Wetlands, and Shrubland areas. A total of 3.4 acres of wetlands were restored. Native plant species were sourced from greenhouses that specialized in plants native to NJ. A three-year maintenance and monitoring period was conducted after plantings, which showed the successful restoration and regeneration of wetlands with flourishing native fauna and flora inhabiting the restored areas.
